Community Consultation & Report for the Transition of the Positive Space Network

Challenge

Based on the recommendation from a program review of the Positive Space Network (PSN), it was concluded that PSN had outgrown its current home at ROCK. It was recommended that PSN be given the space to grow and transition to a 2SLGBTQIA+-led organization, and to explore the possibility of a sustainable relationship with the Ontario Health Team (OHT) in Burlington and throughout Halton, specifically, to secure gender-affirming healthcare for the 2SLGBTQIA+ population and training for healthcare professionals.

Joanna Matthews was one of two consultants contracted to complete the next steps in this work, which included community consultation with a diverse range of stakeholders and a written report. The work included one-on-one interviews with affected community partners to ensure awareness of the changes and explore potential opportunities for new partnerships or programming amalgamation.

Results

The project was completed using a collaborative, inclusive and community-centred approach. Community feedback was gathered through:

  • Two service provider focus groups
  • One youth-specific focus group
  • 15 individual agency interviews

Outcomes included:

  • Analysis and Summary Findings
  • Report and recommendation development
  • Successful transition of PSN programming to ROCK’s new slate of 2SLGBTQA+ programs aligned to the Core Service Delivery Areas
  • Stakeholder relationship management with full notification to and participation of key community stakeholders
  • Identification of future growth opportunities and next steps in community opportunities
